FMI-EPS Concrete Block-Outs are designed for poured-in-place, tilt-up, and precast concrete systems. They reduce the amount of concrete, framing material, labor, and overall structure weight, while accelerating project schedules.
After forms are stripped, EPS Block-Outs can often be reused as lightweight fill — further lowering project costs and material waste.
Key Advantages
- Cost & Labor Savings — Reduces concrete volume, framing, and labor.
- Lightweight Strength — Easy to handle, yet durable in concrete applications.
- Reusable — Block-outs can be repurposed as lightweight fill.
- Architectural Flexibility — Custom sizes, profiles, 3D shapes, and decorative patterns available.
- Thermal Insulation — Stable R-value; contributes to energy performance objectives.
- Weather Resistant — Installs and performs in varied jobsite conditions.
- Environmentally Safe — Contains no CFCs, HCFCs, HFCs, dyes, or formaldehyde; recyclable and inert.
Applications
- Window and door openings in poured walls
- Concrete decks, ramps, and stairs
- Precast and tilt-up concrete systems
- Insulated wall panels and building envelopes
- Lightweight void formers to reduce structural mass
Design Cautions
- EPS is combustible and must be installed per code with proper thermal barriers.
- Susceptible to solvent damage — use compatible adhesives/barriers.
- Prolonged UV exposure may cause discoloration/surface dusting.
